Initial Consultation and Signposting Service
(UK and Ireland only)
My online waiting list has now been closed for almost a year and I continue to receive enquiries on a regular basis from people in search of recommendations for themselves or their loved ones.
For me to make a suitable recommendation, however, I need to meet with you individually. This is because there are multiple factors to consider when you are looking into therapy, some you may have thought about yourself and others which only begin to emerge in dialogue and discussion.
Some examples include:
- honing what you are looking for and whether / when therapy might be beneficial
- navigating the maze of therapeutic models / approaches
- understanding credentials such as accreditation, registration, qualifications, professional bodies
- identifying areas of specialism or levels of experience required
- clarifying your non-negotiables / desirable traits in a therapist: what qualities do they need to have; do they need any lived experience or to share a particular cultural / religious / gender or sexual identity / neurotype?
In the past I have done this freely, however it became unsustainable due to the volume of enquiries I was receiving, the more specialised the enquiries became and the wider the geographical area covered. My response has been to provide links to therapist directories which I recognise can feel disappointing and / or inadequate.
For this reason I have decided to trial a new service whereby I offer an initial consultation and signposting service. This is not an emergency service, nor is it suitable for anyone facing a crisis. It is an attempt to offer something of an interim space for you if you are finding it challenging to screen the directories and / or to find a therapist who meets your wishes and needs.
My fee for this service is £80 per hour.
